Yeongju Auto Camping Site to Open Next Year
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on May 19, 2025, that it has been operating three auto camping sites?Pohang Sannuri Auto Camping Site, Gimcheon Auto Camping Site, and Yeongdeok Auto Camping Site?since January 2022, utilizing closed schools to provide a natural retreat for educational families and residents of North Gyeongsang Province.
Each camping site offers 15 camping spots in Pohang and Gimcheon, and 25 spots in Yeongdeok. Various amenities are available, including showers, restrooms, water supply, dishwashing stations, recycling stations, and facilities for handling embers.
The facilities are available to students, parents, school staff, and North Gyeongsang Province residents. The daily fee is 20,000 KRW per site, including electricity and water usage. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education's integrated reservation system.
Meanwhile, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education is constructing a new auto camping site with 12 spots on the grounds of the former Buseok Elementary School Namdae Branch in Yeongju, aiming to open in January 2026 so that more educational families and residents can enjoy the facilities.
Jung Jonghee, Director of School Support at the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "As the camping season arrives, I hope families will enjoy nature together at the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education auto camping sites and create special memories through various experiences," encouraging active interest and use of the facilities.
