Minister Park to Attend OECD and ITF Meetings in Europe
Will Discuss Regional Revitalization, Climate Change, and Digital Transformation
Plans Bilateral Talks with Poland and Ukraine on Smart Cities and Infrastructure Cooperation
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that Minister Sangwoo Park will attend the OECD Regional Development Policy Ministerial Meeting, which will be held in Warsaw, Poland on May 19. He will then travel to Leipzig, Germany to participate in the OECD International Transport Forum (ITF) Transport Ministers' Meeting.
This meeting will address shared international issues such as low birth rates, climate change, and digital transformation. The Regional Development Policy Meeting, organized by the OECD Regional Development Policy Committee, is the highest-level meeting in this field and is held every five years. Under the theme "Strengthening Regional Policy for Resilient Regions," representatives from more than 50 countries and institutions will participate. Minister Park has been designated as one of three lead speakers and will discuss the Korean government's response to local extinction, the establishment of ultra-wide megacities to enhance regional competitiveness, and the direction for developing innovation-driven growth hubs.
The ITF Transport Ministers' Meeting is a forum that brings together transport ministers and international organizations from more than 60 countries around the world. During discussions on climate change issues, Minister Park plans to introduce Korea's transport policies, such as K-Pass, and to discuss global governance and cooperation measures. He will also seek interest and support for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju later this year.
Minister Park is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with countries including Poland and Ukraine during this trip. He will sign an agreement with Poland to cooperate in the field of smart cities. Together with Poland, he will discuss cooperation measures for the reconstruction of Ukraine and support activities to increase the participation of Korean companies in building local infrastructure such as new airports, high-speed rail, and roads. He will also hold a meeting with Korean construction and engineering firms operating locally.
Minister Park stated, "Korea will pursue more inclusive land and transport policies for a sustainable future for all, while expanding its role in spreading OECD values and norms to address global common challenges."
