"I made an investment, but things got complicated... I was embarrassed when the article came out"
"It's been resolved. Sorry for causing concern"
Broadcaster Kyungsil Lee announced that the auction process for her home in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul has been canceled.
On May 16, Lee wrote on her social media, "Let me get straight to the point. The issue has been resolved." She added, "I apologize to everyone who was surprised, curious, and worried. Even my family didn't know, and I was also taken aback when an article came out while I was still working things out."
Lee continued, "To explain, since I hadn't been working for several years, I invested somewhere to secure a stable income. Things were fine for a few years, but starting about three years ago, various issues began to pile up, and that's how this happened." She added, "I was anxious that my kids might find out, and I tried to resolve it before then, but now the whole country knows, and frankly, it's embarrassing."
She went on to say, "Honestly, I want to upload a photo of the cancellation receipt, but I'm holding back," and expressed, "I'm sorry and grateful to everyone who worried and felt anxious for me."
Previously, on May 15, real estate auction data company GGI Auction reported that an auction for a 293-square-meter (89-pyeong) apartment owned by Kyungsil Lee in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was scheduled to be held at the Seoul Western District Court on May 27.
According to GGI Auction, the apartment in question is a single-building complex called Jungwoo Mansion, located near Ichon Hangang Park, and was built in 1972. The building has a total of 12 floors and 24 units. The company stated that the starting auction price was 2.55 billion won.
According to the certified copy of the real estate register, Kyungsil Lee purchased the apartment in 2007 for approximately 1.4 billion won and has lived there since. A mortgage with a maximum claim amount of 1.8 billion won was registered under the name of an individual identified as A, suggesting that Lee borrowed money using the apartment as collateral but failed to repay it, leading to the auction process.
In September last year, A filed for a voluntary auction with the court, claiming about 1.33 billion won. A voluntary auction is a process in which, if a real estate collateral loan borrower is delinquent on principal and interest payments for more than three months, a financial institution such as a bank can apply to have the property auctioned without a trial. Subsequently, A transferred the claim to a loan company.
