Geumcheon District (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that starting from the 19th, it will be recruiting participants for the social dining program "Happy Table," aimed at single-person households aged 40 to 67.

This program is designed for middle-aged and older single-person households who face difficulties such as eating alone and social isolation. It helps participants improve their eating habits and build healthy social relationships by cooking and dining together.

According to a 2022 survey on the status of single-person households in Seoul, 30.2% of middle-aged single-person households reported that meal preparation was one of the most challenging aspects of living alone. Additionally, 78.7% of middle-aged single-person households reported experiencing psychological difficulties such as loneliness.

In response, the district has organized "Happy Table," a program where participants cook and share meals together, as both regular and special programs, to be held over a total of seven sessions.

The regular program is structured as a space for communication based on cooking practice. It is expected that participants will form social networks by sharing the results of healthy eating challenges and engaging in conversation.

The second session, for which recruitment begins on the 19th, is also a regular program. With the theme of the "Mediterranean Diet," it will take place every Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Geumcheon Youth Dream Center, from June 11 to July 2. Through practical cooking classes that anyone can easily follow, participants will experience the joy of home-cooked meals, balanced nutrition, and healthy relationship building.

Anyone aged 40 to 67 who lives or works in Geumcheon District and is part of a single-person household is eligible to participate. Starting from the 19th, 20 participants will be recruited online or in person at the Family Policy Division of Geumcheon District Office.

Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon District, stated, "I hope that 'Happy Table' will become a warm gift that brings vitality to the lives of middle-aged single-person households, going beyond simply solving meal issues," and added, "We will continue to promote various programs to improve the quality of life for single-person households."

The special program of Happy Table consists of themed one-day classes. Activities such as making holiday dishes and baking tarts will allow participants to share and enjoy the food they prepare together, with some of the food being donated to the local community.
