People Power Party Sends Key Campaign Leaders for All-Out Weekend Effort

The People Power Party decided to immediately dispatch key members of its election campaign headquarters to launch an all-out campaign after candidate Kim Moonsoo showed weak approval ratings even in Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK), a traditional conservative stronghold.

On the 17th, the People Power Party's election campaign headquarters announced, "Starting today, we will officially begin an all-out campaign in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region to rally our support base."

The election headquarters explained, "The campaign leadership, sharing a sense of crisis over the recent public opinion trends in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, has launched a comprehensive response to lead the demoralized conservative base to the polls in this early presidential election climate."

Accordingly, key figures from the campaign headquarters, including General Election Campaign Director Yoon Jaeok and Situation Room Director Jang Donghyuk, plan to personally tour the TK region starting today to appeal for consolidation of their support base.

On the morning of the same day, Director Yoon presided over the election campaign committee meeting in Daegu and discussed campaign strategies.

Director Jang joined campaign events in Daegu city, including at the entrance to Suseong Lake in the afternoon, and will participate in a late-night walking campaign with the "Firefly Youth Campaign Team" in the evening.

The People Power Party's campaign headquarters stated, "We have designated this weekend as a turning point for an 'all-out victory push' and aim to shift the presidential race by consolidating our traditional support base centered on the TK region."

According to a public opinion poll conducted by Gallup Korea from the 13th to the 15th on 1,004 voters nationwide aged 18 or older (with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), which was released the previous day, Democratic Party candidate Lee Jaemyung received 34% support in the TK region, while Kim Moonsoo received 48%.

Given that TK has traditionally been a conservative stronghold, Kim's approval rating is being evaluated as significantly low.

Kim Jaewon, chief secretary to the People Power Party's presidential candidate, appeared on YTN Radio's "News Fighting" the previous day and, in response to the host's remark that "candidate Kim has not fully won over the public sentiment in Daegu-Gyeongbuk," stated, "We are taking this very seriously."

Chief Secretary Kim said, "In previous presidential elections, Daegu-Gyeongbuk has always recorded voter turnout rates above 80% and vote shares above 80%, which has created a structure where, even if we lose in other regions, we can still win the overall presidential election."
