The city formed the 'Pohang Battery Delegation,' led by Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, and visited Qinzhou and Shenzhen in China for a five-day trip from May 12 to May 16.
During this visit, the delegation established cooperative networks with global leading companies in China, a hub for the world’s battery and robotics industries. They also participated in 'CIBF 2025 (China International Battery Fair),' the largest battery industry expo in China, where they operated the 'Pohang City Secondary Battery Company Promotion Pavilion,' actively engaging in global business activities.
The delegation visited several key sites: the Qinzhou base of CNGR, the world’s number one company in secondary battery materials; UBTECH Robotics and LimX Dynamics, leading companies in the humanoid robot sector; the Hetao Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, an advanced technology cluster; and the Shenzhen Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, thereby strengthening their cooperation base.
In particular, at the CNGR Qinzhou base, they toured state-of-the-art secondary battery material production facilities, including the precursor extraction building and water treatment building, and examined the operation of eco-friendly resource recycling technologies and large-scale automated systems.
The delegation explored ways to apply these technologies and systems to Pohang’s specialized complexes and industrial parks. They also reviewed and discussed cooperation strategies regarding the ongoing investment project by CNP New Material Technology in Pohang, further strengthening their strategic partnership.
In Shenzhen, the delegation visited UBTECH Robotics, a leading Chinese robotics company, and LimX Dynamics, known as the "DeepSeek of the robotics industry," to observe humanoid robots and AI-based robot operating systems, and to formulate strategies for fostering Pohang’s robotics industry.
With both companies, they exchanged views on future technological and business exchanges, laying the groundwork for cooperation in nurturing the robotics industry as a future high-tech sector.
Additionally, the delegation visited the Hetao Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, a science and technology innovation hub at the border of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, as well as the Shenzhen Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. There, they studied China’s advanced technology cluster operation models and urban planning cases, gaining insights necessary for Pohang’s future urban planning as a city centered on the battery industry.
At 'CIBF 2025,' held at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, Pohang City operated a secondary battery company promotion pavilion, showcasing the main technologies and products of local companies such as Dawon Chemical, PM Grow, and Endive, and supporting their expansion into global markets.
This expo is the world’s largest battery exhibition, with over 3,000 companies and more than 400,000 visitors from around the globe. Leading battery companies such as CALT, BYD, and EVE Energy participated to showcase their latest technologies.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, stated, "This visit to China has been an important opportunity to promote Pohang’s competitiveness in the battery industry to the world and to strengthen our global cooperation network. Moving forward, we will actively pursue global connections to build an ecosystem for future industries, focusing on batteries and extending into robotics and AI."
