Pusan National University Holds 79th Anniversary Ceremony, Pledges New Leap Toward 80th Anniversary Next Year

Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) held its '79th Anniversary Foundation Ceremony' on May 16 in the main conference room of the university headquarters, reflecting on the university's achievements with its members and pledging a new leap forward toward the 80th anniversary next year.

The event proceeded in the following order: commemorative address, congratulatory remarks, awards for outstanding alumni and faculty, presentation of government awards for Teacher's Day, and commendations for long-term service.

In particular, the 'Yoon Ingu Academic Award', established to honor the founding president Yoon Ingu, was presented to four professors: Park Jungjun (Department of Sports Science), Lee Jaekwang (Department of Physics), Han Dongwook (Department of Optical Mechatronics Engineering), and Kim Yunhak (Department of Convergence Medical Science).

The 'Educator Award', given to faculty members with outstanding educational activities, was awarded to ten professors, including Kim Seungryong (Department of Classical Chinese Literature), Kim Youngjae (Department of Economics), Cho Sugyeong (Department of Ethics Education), and Yoon Seokchan (Department of Law). The 'Yoon Ingu Young Researcher Award' was presented to nine professors, including Noh Eunseok (Department of English Education), Kim Kyunggu (School of Public Policy), and Kim Namhun (Department of Food and Resource Economics).

The 'Industry-Academia Cooperation Innovation Award', recognizing contributions to industry-academia collaboration, was given to Kim Donghyun, Executive Vice President of Hanwha Aerospace.

The 'Proud Pusan National University Alumni Award', which honors alumni who have enhanced the university's reputation, was presented to Jung Il (Class of 1978, Department of Business Administration), CEO of Gonggam Accounting Corporation, and Jung Yeonin (Class of 1980, Department of Mechanical Design Engineering), Vice Chairman and CEO of Doosan Enerbility.

Jung Il was recognized for his contributions to the development of regional tax administration and the accounting industry, having served as President of the Busan Regional Certified Public Accountants Association and Vice President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Jung Yeonin was highly praised for leading the development of the nation's first large-scale gas turbine and spearheading the transition to eco-friendly energy businesses, thereby contributing to the advancement of national industry.

In his commemorative address, President Choi Jaewon stated, "Pusan National University, which began with a sense of mission to build the future of the Republic of Korea right after liberation, has grown into the nation's leading national university." He emphasized, "We must foster a healthy academic ecosystem and convergence, and become a university where students and members can regain their vitality."

He added, "In celebration of the 80th anniversary of our founding next year, we will prepare a meaningful festival together with alumni and citizens who cherish Pusan National University," and urged, "Let all members work together to newly establish the unique value of Pusan National University."
