Campaign to Encourage 'Presidential Election Voting'
Through Electronic Boards, Banners, and More
Seogu District in Gwangju (headed by District Mayor Kim Ikang) is conducting a multifaceted campaign to encourage voters to cast their precious ballots ahead of the 21st presidential election.
According to Seogu on May 16, a new message has recently been added to the administrative phone guidance system: "June 3 is voting day! A country where the people are the owners begins with your vote. Please be sure to vote for a better future for our community and let your valuable voice be heard." This message is naturally encouraging voter participation whenever calls are connected.
Messages emphasizing 'voter participation' are being broadcast simultaneously on the electronic displays inside and outside the district office, at the electronic bulletin boards of 18 neighborhood administrative welfare centers, on outdoor promotional boards operated by Seogu, and on Seogu’s official website and social media channels. On May 10, a large banner was installed on the outer wall of the district office to remind citizens of the importance of voting rights.
Efforts to spread a culture of voting are also continuing at meetings. During the weekly business meeting held on May 13, the phrase "A country where the people are the owners begins with your vote" was displayed on the electronic board in Nanum Hall, the meeting venue, providing an opportunity for public officials themselves to foster a spirit of participation in voting.
Earlier, on May 12, MZ generation public officials visited the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery and, in front of the Gate of Democracy, held a campaign holding a banner that read "A boy comes to May Gwangju! The MZ generation goes to the polling station." This meaningful performance, which aimed to encourage young people to vote while commemorating the spirit of May, drew attention.
Shin Jin, head of the Resident Autonomy Division, said, "By encouraging participation in voting from the administrative field, public officials are the first to reflect on the meaning of participatory democracy," adding, "We will continue a variety of campaigns so that all residents of Seogu can confidently exercise their sovereign rights in this presidential election."
