In this competition, which saw the participation of 250 students from 31 Asian countries, the Korean team’s Yeonho Lee (Seoul Science High School, 2nd year), Hyukjun Lee, Geunyeong Jang, Jihyung Han (all Seoul Science High School, 3rd year), and Jungmin Choi (Gyeonggi Science High School, 3rd year) won gold medals. Kwonheon Lee, Shinhyuk Lee (Seoul Science High School, 2nd year), and Woo Hyun Chae (Gyeonggi Science High School, 3rd year) received silver medals.
In particular, Hyukjun Lee, who won a gold medal, achieved the highest overall score among all participants by earning top marks in the experimental exam.
The competition consisted of three theoretical problems and one experimental problem. The theoretical exam included questions on the precession of the Earth's rotational axis, spin waves and phase transitions, and thermodynamics of atmospheric phenomena. The experimental exam featured a problem on the principles of induction cookers. The next Asian Physics Olympiad will be held in Busan from May 17 to May 25 next year.
Yongil Shin, chair of the Korean Physics Olympiad Committee of the Korean Physical Society, who led the Korean delegation, expressed his thoughts by saying, "I am proud of the students who have brought honor to the country through their consistent efforts despite their busy academic schedules, and I hope they will continue to freely pursue their dreams and talents in science."
