Shin Younggi, CEO of the new drug development-focused biotech company Abion, announced on May 16 that he has been appointed as Deputy Head of the Policy Communication Team within the Policy Headquarters of the Democratic Party of Korea’s General Election Committee.
Shin, a former professor at the College of Pharmacy at Seoul National University, is a biotech entrepreneur with extensive experience in the fields of life sciences and new drug development. Based on his experience in establishing specialized complexes for the national strategic bioindustry, he is expected to make a substantial contribution to the development of bio-related policies.
Shin stated, “I feel a great sense of responsibility in taking on the role of a bridge, based on my conviction that politics and the industrial field must be organically connected,” adding, “I believe that the combination of political activities and industry experience can lead to positive policy synergies.”
He continued, “Management and clinical development will proceed as before without any disruption,” and explained, “My participation in the Policy Communication Team is a public, social contribution and will be clearly separated from company operations.”
Meanwhile, Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jaemyung has pledged the ‘Super Gap Project’ as a campaign promise, designating artificial intelligence (AI) and bio as national strategic industries and proposing the integration of these two fields.
