Mayor Choi Woncheol:
"We Will Continue to Develop Tailored Policies That Provide Practical Support"
On May 16, Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will expand its 'Small Business Credit Card Fee Support Program,' the only initiative of its kind in South Chungcheong, starting from May 19. This move aims to support small business owners who are struggling due to the prolonged economic downturn.
This program is designed to ease the management burden of small business owners by reimbursing a portion of their credit card transaction fees. Gongju City is the only municipality among the 15 cities and counties in South Chungcheong to implement such a policy. Last year, 2,061 small businesses in the city benefited from the program.
The city has raised the maximum support limit from 500,000 won to 600,000 won this year, aiming to provide more substantial assistance to a greater number of small business owners.
Eligible applicants are small business owners operating within Gongju City as of the announcement date, with annual sales of 500 million won or less in 2024. Those who meet these requirements can receive support for credit card fees of up to 600,000 won per business.
Applications can be submitted through the 'Notices and Announcements' section of the Gongju City Hall website, where detailed information and procedures are also provided.
Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "It is essential to provide practical support that small business owners, who are the core of the local economy, can truly feel," adding, "This program is a unique policy of Gongju City, not found in other local governments, and we will continue to offer customized support that citizens can directly experience."
Meanwhile, this policy is drawing attention as a 'representative achievement unique to Gongju City' that directly supports small business owners amid the economic recession.
