Videos showing passengers lying upside down on airplane seats or lying inside overhead compartments have gone viral.

According to Yonhap News TV on May 16, a video was posted on TikTok and other social networking services (SNS) showing a man lying on the floor of an airplane with his knees resting on the seat, sleeping. According to the uploader, this video was filmed last month on an aircraft operated by Ryanair, an Irish low-cost carrier.

The man reportedly maintained this position for the entire three-hour flight. In response, online users commented, "Why didn't the flight attendants stop him?" and "It would be difficult to respond in an emergency or he could suffer serious injuries."

Videos of bizarre behavior on airplanes also attracted attention last year. The New York Post published a photo of a woman lying in the overhead compartment of an airplane, resting her head on her hand. In China, a passenger lay across two seats as soon as he boarded, delaying the departure for more than two hours.

In South Korea, such actions are punishable under the Aviation Security Act. If the aircraft is on the ground, violators may face a fine of up to 20 million won. If the aircraft is in flight, the penalty can be imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.
