Gyeonggi Province to Provide Up to 50 Million Won for AI Local Specialized Industries

Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 50 million won in support for local industries specializing in artificial intelligence (AI).

On May 16, Gyeonggi Province announced that, together with the Next Generation Convergence Technology Institute, it will be accepting applications for the "AI Convergence Local Specialized Industry Support Project" until June 3. This project aims to support the AI transformation of local specialized industries.

The AI Convergence Support Project is a program that selects one industry where AI technology can be integrated and provides step-by-step support. This includes establishing an AI convergence strategy, on-site customized consulting, discovering and matching solutions, and training on utilization.

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations such as business councils, associations, cooperatives, organizations representing tenant companies, or local industrial promotion agencies that make up the local specialized industry.

Gyeonggi Province, together with the Next Generation Convergence Technology Institute, plans to form an "AI Convergence Council" centered on the selected industry sector. The council will develop an industry-specific AI convergence strategy through workshops involving related institutions and experts from the specialized industry.

Subsequently, AI solutions tailored to the needs of each demand company within the industry will be identified and matched, with each company eligible to receive between 30 million and 50 million won in project funding (covering 90% of the total amount, with a 10% self-contribution required).

Organizations wishing to participate in the project should submit a proposal to the Next Generation Convergence Technology Institute. The proposal must include the current status of the local industry, the need for AI adoption, the willingness of demand companies to participate, and plans for forming a council. The final selection of support recipients will be made by an evaluation committee after a preliminary review of eligibility and a document evaluation.

Kim Kibyeong, Director of AI at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We plan to provide practical technology adoption, on-site consulting, and capacity-building programs so that local specialized industries can regain vitality through AI convergence. We hope that the AI Convergence Support Project will serve as a catalyst for change and innovation at industrial sites."
