Park Chandae, the Democratic Party's Standing General Election Committee Chair, visited Daejeon on the 15th and emphasized the necessity of a change in government as well as Daejeon's vision as a science and technology-centered city, stating, "Let us begin the real Republic of Korea here in Daejeon, the center of change in our country."
Park visited the National Daejeon Cemetery, where he laid flowers at the Memorial Tower and then paid respects in succession at the gravesites of the Yeonpyeong Naval Battle fallen, the late Private First Class Chae Soogeun, and the 46 heroes of the Cheonan warship.
After visiting the cemetery, he moved to the main gate of Chungnam National University and said, "Daejeon has always been at the center of science, reform, and transformation in Korea." He added, "Candidate Lee Jaemyung and the Democratic Party will restore the R&D budget and help Daedeok Special District reemerge as a world-class hub for scientific and technological innovation."
Park characterized the upcoming June 3 election as "a contest between forces defending the Constitution and those destroying it, between the people who overcame insurrection and the far-right vested interests and pseudo-sectarian groups," stressing that it is "a historic election to protect democracy in the Republic of Korea."
He then introduced key achievements from Lee Jaemyung's tenures as mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province, appealing for support by saying, "Candidate Lee Jaemyung is fully qualified to become the foremost public servant of Korea."
