On May 15, HiMK Co., Ltd. held a completion ceremony for its new aluminum parts factory for eco-friendly electric vehicles (EVs) at its Indong plant located in the Gumi National Industrial Complex 3, and officially began full-scale mass production.
With the completion of this facility, North Gyeongsang Province and Gumi City have laid the foundation to actively expand the aluminum-based advanced materials industry ecosystem and to establish themselves as a hub for eco-friendly EV production.
The completion ceremony of the HiMK Gumi factory is taking place. Jo Jungwoo, CEO of HiMK (right), Kim Jangwoo, Mayor of Gumi (fourth from the right), and Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province for Economic Affairs (sixth from the right), attended the event.
The ceremony was attended by Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province for Economic Affairs; Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi; Koo Bonkyu, CEO of LS Cable & System; Jo Jungwoo, CEO of HiMK Co., Ltd.; Rob Van Gils, CEO of Austria's HAI; as well as company executives, key figures, members of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Council, and Gumi City Council members. The event proceeded with a progress report and congratulatory speeches.
HiMK Co., Ltd. was established in July 2023 as a joint venture between LS Materials and HAI (Hammerer Aluminium Industries Gmbh), an Austrian aluminum extrusion company, in response to the global increase in production of eco-friendly EVs. In January 2024, the company signed an investment MOU worth a total of 75 billion KRW with North Gyeongsang Province and Gumi City, officially launching the construction of the Gumi plant.
With the completion of this new factory, HiMK Co., Ltd. will begin full-scale mass production of high-strength aluminum parts for electric vehicles (EVs), and the products manufactured here will be supplied to major finished vehicle manufacturers.
The main products include EV Side Sill, BPC Profile, and Crash Box, which are core aluminum structures for electric vehicles. The company has secured the technology and quality required to meet the high standards of extruded materials demanded by domestic major automakers' EV models, indicating a very high potential for continued growth in the future.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "I am pleased to participate in the completion ceremony of HiMK Co., Ltd.'s Gumi Indong plant and wish for HiMK Co., Ltd. to grow into a global company in the field of eco-friendly EVs."
Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province for Economic Affairs, emphasized, "The completion of HiMK Co., Ltd.'s factory is expected to greatly contribute to the expansion of the aluminum industry ecosystem and the growth of North Gyeongsang Province and Gumi City as a center for eco-friendly EV production. I hope HiMK Co., Ltd. will grow into a world-class eco-friendly materials and parts company, and we will do our best to attract promising companies and strengthen manufacturing competitiveness."
