Gwangyang City Transitions Plastic Membership Cards to Mobile Versions

Integrated with Just One 'MY Gwangyang' App

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province is transitioning its plastic membership cards to mobile versions, simultaneously promoting eco-friendly administration and budget savings.

On May 15, Gwangyang City announced that it will convert various membership cards, which have previously been issued as plastic cards, into mobile cards based on the 'MY Gwangyang' app.

This policy aligns with the city’s goal of becoming a sustainable, eco-friendly city by reducing resource waste caused by the issuance of hundreds of plastic cards each year and by achieving budget savings. However, the city will continue to provide traditional plastic cards to certain groups, such as elderly residents who may have difficulty using smartphones.

Currently, four types of mobile cards are available through the 'MY Gwangyang' app: library membership cards, toy library membership cards, Gwangyang citizen cards, and digital Gwangyang citizen certificates. The city is also considering adding a card for families with multiple children, and in the long term, plans to convert all membership cards to mobile versions.

Jung Seungjae, head of the Gwangyang City Gamdong Era Promotion Team, stated, "We hope that the use of mobile membership cards, which cannot be lost, will help prevent resource waste and establish a culture of environmental protection. We will continue to promote the digital transformation of public services and eco-friendly administration to make Gwangyang a city where people want to live for a lifetime."

Meanwhile, the MY Gwangyang mobile app is currently in a pilot phase and can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The city plans to officially launch the service on May 22, after incorporating feedback received during the pilot period.
