There was a commotion in Gwangju when police were dispatched after a man with an unidentified toy gun was mistaken for carrying a sniper rifle in an apartment complex.

According to Gwangju Nambu Police Station on May 15, at around 6:15 p.m. the previous day, a report was received at the 112 Situation Room stating that "there is a man holding a 1-meter-long firearm" in the parking lot of an apartment in Daechon-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju.

The police tracked the movements of the unidentified man, referred to as Mr. A, and urgently dispatched about 30 personnel to the scene, including members of the violent crime team, the riot squad, and local police officers.

About an hour after the report, at 7:17 p.m., Mr. A was apprehended and it was confirmed that the firearm in his possession was a recreational gun approximately 120 cm in length.

A police official stated, "Although it was not an actual firearm, we responded with full force because it is election season and there are concerns about terrorist threats."
