A group of individuals who threatened Son Heungmin (33), captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL), and demanded several hundred million won, has been apprehended by the police.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 15th that they have arrested and are investigating a woman in her 20s, identified as A, and a man in his 40s, identified as B, on charges of blackmail and attempted blackmail, respectively.
According to the police, A is accused of claiming in June last year that she was pregnant with Son Heungmin's child and attempting to extort money from Son Heungmin's side in exchange for not disclosing this information. B, who is an acquaintance of A, is also reported to have approached Son Heungmin's side in March this year to try to obtain money.
On May 7, Son Heungmin's representatives filed a complaint with the police, stating that the individuals had deceived them by falsely claiming pregnancy and attempted to extort money.
The police applied for arrest warrants for the suspects on May 12 and received approval from the court on the afternoon of May 14.
The police are currently investigating the specific details of the crime.
