Nowonwoo Councilor Saves Elderly Man with CPR
It has been reported that a campaign worker for Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, saved the life of an elderly man who collapsed from cardiac arrest during an election campaign event by performing CPR.
On May 14, Lee stated on his Facebook page, "Yesterday, during the campaign, Nowonwoo, a member of the Dongdaemun District Council, discovered an elderly man who had collapsed from cardiac arrest and saved his life with prompt CPR." He added, "The CPR skills learned through volunteer firefighter activities were of great help." Lee continued, "It is truly fortunate," and remarked, "Isn't the true purpose of politics to save lives and protect the lives of the people?"
He went on to say, "For all the Democratic Party colleagues and supporters who are traversing every neighborhood to build a true Republic of Korea, this must have been truly welcome and encouraging news." He added, "I would like to once again express my deep gratitude to Councilor No for taking the lead in saving a life. I also wish the elderly man a swift recovery." Lee further emphasized, "Politics is about saving lives."
Former Democratic Party lawmaker Min Byungdoo also wrote on Facebook the same day, "It would be good if all campaign workers could take a little time to receive CPR training. You never know what might happen around you." He added, "It would be meaningful for candidate Lee to receive training as well if he has an opportunity to meet with firefighters. This is the true meaning of election campaigning."
Meanwhile, Councilor No was elected as a district councilor in the 2022 local elections and has since served as the head of the Women's Committee for the Dongdaemun (Eul) district of the Democratic Party.
