Establishing a Safety Net for Single-Person Households at Risk of Welfare Blind Spots

Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced on May 14 that it had installed 'Smart Care Plugs' in 21 single-person households at risk of falling into a welfare blind spot, as part of efforts to prevent solitary deaths.

The 'Smart Care Plug Installation Project' is designed to automatically detect changes in household electricity usage and light levels, identify abnormal signs, and enable a swift response.

The smart plug is connected to home appliances such as televisions, and if there is no change in electricity usage or light levels for a certain period of time, a danger alert message is sent to the responsible official, allowing for immediate action.

Through this project, the county plans to strengthen the safety net for single-person households and reduce gaps in care by adding real-time monitoring to the existing visit-based care system.

A county official stated, "We hope that the installation of these smart care plugs will help address the isolation of single-person households and eliminate blind spots in care," adding, "We will continue to improve the quality of life for residents and make ongoing efforts to prevent solitary deaths through a variety of welfare services."
