Airrain, the only domestic company specializing in gas separation membrane solutions, is showing strong performance. The news that demand for Korean-made products is steadily increasing, as the need to verify the country of origin for manufacturing parts grows amid the restructuring of global manufacturing supply chains, appears to have influenced the stock price.
The world-class technology held by Airrain is drawing attention as Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, has announced pledges to address the climate crisis. The Democratic Party is putting forward environmental and industrial pledges under the theme of "Responding to the Climate Crisis for Future Generations." The main points include the enactment of the Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality, the closure of coal-fired power plants by 2040, and the establishment of RE100 (100% renewable energy use) industrial complexes.
As of 1:57 p.m. on May 14, Airrain was trading at 21,850 won, up 2,570 won (13.33%) from the previous trading day.
In the first quarter, Airrain recorded sales of 6 billion won, operating profit of 1.2 billion won, and net profit of 1 billion won. These figures represent increases of 58%, 604%, and 106%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. The synergy from technological advancement and facility expansion has begun in earnest, leading to record-high quarterly results.
The main drivers behind this performance growth were the early completion of facility expansion in response to surging customer demand, and the stable revenue contribution from the new production line that began full operation in February. Other factors include enhanced product performance and improved customer trust through continuous technological development, as well as solid growth in sales to China. In particular, the significant increase in demand for nitrogen generators in industries such as LNG shipbuilding, where high-performance gas separation membranes are required, had a positive impact on the results.
Airrain is focusing on expanding exports of high-performance gas separation membrane products. The company is also committed to developing customized technologies and products for new industries such as biogas, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Based on its expanded production lines, Airrain is securing delivery reliability and supply flexibility, and aims to become a global top-tier player in the gas separation membrane sector by expanding its global sales network.
Ha Sungyong, CEO of Airrain, stated, "With the expansion of energy resource development, demand for nitrogen generators utilizing gas separation membranes continues to increase. In particular, with the enforcement of a law mandating biogas production in Korea starting this year, we expect related demand to grow even further."
He added, "As global interest in biogas also continues to rise, we will actively seek out opportunities in the global biogas development business and focus our capabilities to achieve even greater growth."
In March, Airrain, in cooperation with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Fuel Cell, succeeded for the first time in Korea in capturing more than 90% of the carbon dioxide (CO₂) emitted from a PAFC (Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell). The company is currently working to commercialize the application of carbon dioxide capture systems in fuel cell power generation, while also developing new businesses utilizing the captured CO₂.
CEO Ha stated, "This project is a significant achievement in verifying the effectiveness of CO₂ capture using gas separation membrane technology. We will continue to develop innovative technologies for achieving carbon neutrality and strengthen our competitiveness in the global eco-friendly energy market."
