The Chungnam Office of Education announced on May 14 that it aims to achieve second place overall?one step higher than last year?at the 19th National Disabled Students Sports Competition, which is being held in various locations throughout Gyeongsangnam-do for four days until May 16.

The Chungnam team consists of a total of 432 members, including 150 athletes, 108 supervising teachers, and 174 directors, coaches, and officials. The team is competing in 11 events, including athletics, swimming, badminton, basketball, and disc golf.

At last year’s 18th competition, the Chungnam team won a total of 134 medals?46 gold, 43 silver, and 45 bronze?setting a new record for the highest number of medals in its history and achieving a remarkable third place overall nationwide.

Building on last year’s achievements, the Chungnam team is aiming for second place overall this year and is especially demonstrating strong performance in athletics, where it is seeking its 10th consecutive championship at the competition.

In disc golf, the team is aiming for its fifth consecutive championship, while in basketball, it is looking to achieve its second consecutive victory.

Jung Eunyoung, Director of the Department of Elementary Special Education at the Chungnam Office of Education, stated, "The challenges our student athletes take on go beyond simply competing for medals?they are valuable journeys of growth as they push past their own limits. I hope many will show interest and support for the new records and inspiration that our children’s confident challenges will create."
