Demonstration Linked with Autonomous Driving Pilot Zone

Daejeon City and ETRI Launch Demonstration of Cooperative Communication Technology for Autonomous Driving

The Daejeon city government announced that it has partnered with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) to be selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's public project, "Development of Heterogeneous V2X Cooperative Driving Communication Technology," and will begin demonstrating autonomous driving technology.

This project, which will receive 4.5 billion KRW in national funding, aims to dramatically enhance the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving by implementing seamless V2X communication in heterogeneous environments such as vehicles, road infrastructure, and communication networks. ETRI will focus on developing core services including cooperative driving, cooperative perception, and remote control.

The city plans to demonstrate this technology in connection with the "Autonomous Driving Commercialization Pilot Zone Development Project." Currently, the city is working toward completing the demonstration by the end of this year, with the goal of providing passenger transportation services using two autonomous buses. Preparations are underway, including vehicle modification, construction of high-precision road maps, and installation of communication infrastructure.

In particular, the seamless V2X communication technology under development is expected to significantly enhance the completeness of the pilot zone, as it is a key element that enables real-time cooperative driving between autonomous buses, integrated control of multiple vehicles, and remote control.

A city official stated, "We will actively support Daejeon in becoming a key hub for the demonstration of autonomous driving technology through our cooperation with ETRI."
