Nexon Posts 43% Surge in Q1 Operating Profit on "Dungeon & Fighter" and "MapleStory" Recovery... Eyes New Title Momentum

Nexon reported strong results for the first quarter of 2025, driven by improved performance of its existing popular game franchises and the successful launch of new titles. According to a disclosure on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on May 13, Nexon's operating profit for the first quarter reached 395.2 billion KRW (41.6 billion JPY), a 43% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue rose by 5% to 1.082 trillion KRW (113.9 billion JPY). However, net profit was recorded at 249.5 billion KRW (26.3 billion JPY), marking a 27% decrease.

Nexon explained that the clear recovery of its flagship games, which had underperformed last year, was a key driver of the improved results. In particular, "Dungeon & Fighter" saw a significant boost in performance after updates, with increases in both user numbers and payment rates in the Korean and Chinese markets.

"MapleStory" also delivered meaningful results as the PC version continued to be well received in global markets. Especially in North America and Europe, the "hyper-localization" strategy led by the LA development team proved effective, resulting in a 35% year-over-year increase in revenue and continued growth in these regions.

The market entry of new games is also noteworthy. "Mabinogi Mobile," released on March 27, exceeded expectations in the domestic market by ranking first in popularity and second in top-grossing on Google Play, and first in top-grossing on the Apple App Store.

"First Berserker: Kazan," which launched on March 28, performed below expectations in its core markets of North America and Europe, but received positive reviews from both critics and users, positively impacting overall results. In the Chinese market, Nexon has begun pre-registration in collaboration with Tencent, raising expectations for future performance.

Nexon plans to unveil a diverse lineup of new titles in the second half of this year. The company will release "ARC Raiders" and the "In the Jungle" DLC for "Dave the Diver," both developed by Embark Studios, and conduct a global alpha test for "Vindictus: Defying Fate" in June. In addition, several new games across various genres, such as "Paradise: Last Paradise" and "Dungeon & Fighter: Arad," are in the pipeline.

With approximately 5.7 trillion KRW in cash and cash equivalents, Nexon plans to pursue growth opportunities in international markets and focus on enhancing corporate value through strategic partnerships.

Lee Jungheon, CEO of Nexon's Japan subsidiary, emphasized, "We will continue our efforts to deliver innovative games based on our strong IP franchises, live service capabilities, and strategic partnerships."
