Proactive Response to Heatwaves and Heavy Rain... Mapo-gu Holds Comprehensive Summer Countermeasures Briefing

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kangsoo) held the "2025 Comprehensive Summer Countermeasures Briefing" at 2:00 p.m. on May 13 in the main conference room on the 8th floor of Mapo-gu Office to proactively prepare for various summer disasters.

This briefing was organized to discuss effective response measures to protect the lives and safety of residents, as the importance of thorough preemptive preparation has grown in the era of climate crisis following last year's record-breaking heatwave and heavy rainfall.

This year's comprehensive summer countermeasures will be implemented over five months, from May 15 to October 15. Starting May 20, the district will establish and operate a Heatwave Situation Management Task Force on a continuous basis and launch its summer disaster response operations.

The district's comprehensive plan is divided into four main areas: ▲Heatwave (protecting vulnerable groups through operation of cooling centers, worker safety management, etc.), ▲Flood Control (emergency support for storm and flood damage, focused management of flood-prone areas and households at risk of flooding, etc.), ▲Safety (maintenance and inspection of disaster-vulnerable facilities, prevention of major accidents, etc.), and ▲Public Health (prevention and disinfection against infectious diseases, prevention of food poisoning, etc.).

The briefing was attended by the Deputy Mayor, directors, and heads of 21 relevant departments, who shared detailed implementation plans for each department and discussed ways to strengthen organic cooperation.

Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "There is no such thing as overreacting when it comes to safety. Thorough inspections are the strongest safeguard, and we must not neglect the protection of those who are particularly vulnerable in the face of disaster, such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities." He added, "I ask everyone to do their utmost to ensure that all Mapo-gu residents can enjoy a safe and healthy summer, leaving no room for complacency in mosquito control, street tree safety inspections, supply of flood barriers, and other measures."

Mapo-gu plans to flexibly adjust its response plans according to future forecasts from the Korea Meteorological Administration and strengthen the provision of disaster safety information and public awareness activities for residents.
