Comprehensive Plan Implemented Through Collaboration of 13 Departments Until October
Strengthening Disaster Prediction and On-Site Response Using AI and Drones
Gwangju Bukgu District has established a comprehensive action plan to prepare for natural disasters such as heavy rainfall and typhoons during the summer and is moving forward with its response efforts.
On May 13, Bukgu District announced, "Due to the global climate crisis, the frequency of large-scale disasters during the summer is increasing," and added, "For five months until mid-October, we will operate a disaster response system with the goals of 'prioritizing the protection of human life and eliminating safety blind spots.'"
This plan consists of four key directions and seven major action tasks. Thirteen relevant departments and related organizations will collaborate to establish pre-inspection and real-time response systems. Bukgu District will operate a 24-hour emergency duty system according to weather conditions and will organize working groups with assigned tasks for each situation to continue holding countermeasure meetings.
The district will also strengthen disaster response using advanced technology. When signs of danger are detected through CCTV and AI video analysis technology installed at 64 flood-prone locations, emergency disaster text messages will be sent and relevant departments will be notified to enable a swift response. Real-time on-site video transmission and damage assessment using drones will also be conducted.
Previously, in March, Bukgu District surveyed 88 locations including steep slopes, retaining walls, and landslide-prone areas, and designated 30 sites with a high risk of human casualties as special management targets. For these areas, resident evacuation plans have been established and inspections of flood control supplies have been completed.
In addition, the district will support the installation of flood barriers to prevent flooding of underground facilities and will implement safety management measures at nine large construction sites as part of its preventive facility management efforts. On May 14, as part of disaster response training, about 100 participants including government officials and the voluntary disaster prevention corps will conduct a water pump operation drill at Yongsan Baseball Field in Yongjeon-dong.
