Gwangju City is establishing a "full-cycle development system" for the development of core components for future vehicles.

On May 13, Gwangju City announced that it has been finally selected for the "Establishment of a Support Platform for the Development of High-Efficiency Core Electronic Components for Future Vehicles" project, which is part of the "2025 Industrial Technology Infrastructure Establishment Project" overseen by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

This project will invest a total of 23.5 billion won (including national funds) over five years, until 2029, to establish the "Future Car Electronic Components Development Center" in the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex. The core of the project is to gradually build infrastructure such as state-of-the-art equipment for component testing, evaluation, and development.

Through this initiative, the city will: ▲ introduce performance evaluation and testing equipment specialized for future vehicle electronic components ▲ establish a technology support and development system for advanced, high-efficiency components ▲ foster professionals specializing in future vehicles and provide consulting support for companies.

In particular, with the rapid growth of the future vehicle market?including high-performance electric vehicles with 48V systems and AI-converged autonomous vehicles equipped with cutting-edge sensors?the importance of high-efficiency electronic components is being increasingly highlighted. The city expects that the platform established through this project will serve as a key foundation for the continued growth of the local automotive industry and for enhancing the competitiveness of local companies.

Once the development center is established, the city plans to link it with the 166 types of eco-friendly vehicle development equipment already in place at the Bitgreen Industrial Complex, as well as the AI-based large-scale driving simulator, to create a "full-cycle development support system" for local small and medium-sized enterprises?from component design and development to production and certification. This is expected to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Gwangju future vehicle industry cluster.

Mayor Kang Gijung stated, "By establishing the 'Weekly Yeouido Office' in Seoul, we are actively responding to reflect presidential pledges and attract national projects, thereby gradually building the foundation for Gwangju's future industries. Securing this national project means that we are establishing a core foundation for leading future vehicle component development in Gwangju, and we will actively support local companies so they can take the lead in developing core components for future vehicles."
