The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) has published R&D Policy Brief No. 2025-3 under the theme "Trends and Implications of Domestic and International Big Data Policies in Healthcare."

This brief focuses on healthcare big data, which is emerging as a core resource in the era of digital healthcare. It analyzes policy trends in major countries abroad, examines domestic response strategies, and draws implications for the Busan region.

According to the report, countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and Finland are establishing biobanks and platforms that integrate genomic and clinical data. Based on these, they are expanding data openness and utilization, thereby promoting innovation in healthcare.

Busan is also accelerating the establishment of a digital health industry infrastructure, including the creation of a smart healthcare cluster and the groundbreaking of a healthcare big data center. The active participation of local medical institutions, research institutes, and companies is gradually vitalizing the R&D ecosystem in the region.

Woo Minji, Head of the Policy Research Division at BISTEP, stated, "This brief will serve as a practical reference for establishing domestic healthcare data strategies that reflect global policy trends." She emphasized, "To respond to an aging society and strengthen the competitiveness of the biohealth industry, it is essential to pursue institutional improvements for data utilization and to raise public awareness in parallel."
