Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) and the Arts Council Korea have announced the spring season performances of 'DSME-Dongseo Musical Entertainment,' a professional performing arts production group established as part of a field-linked support project for aspiring artists.

The new musical "The Horseman and the Lady," written and directed by Professor Oh Sejun of Dongseo University, will premiere as a nostalgic jukebox musical for the 1970s and 1980s generation. The show will be performed at the Buk-gu Culture and Arts Center in Busan on May 16 and 17.

Notably, the music will be performed live by a four-member band under the direction of renowned musical director Um Jubin, with the sweet voice of musical actor Kang Hyeongu, promising audiences the dual enjoyment of both a concert and a musical.

Selected as the May featured performance at the Buk-gu Culture and Arts Center, the show is expected to evoke nostalgia and fond memories for local residents.

Additionally, on May 25 and 26, DSME's nonverbal performance "Unanswered Question," which was selected as a rookie performance at the Busan International Performing Arts Festival, will be staged again at the Sohyang Experimental Theater on Dongseo University's Centum Campus, following its performance in Milan in January.

Premiered in September 2024, "Unanswered Question" is a nonverbal performance that seeks answers to the question of war. It received favorable reviews in Milan and has been selected as a BIPAF Rookie for this year's Busan International Performing Arts Festival, returning to domestic audiences.

Professor Yoon Taesik, director of the Department of Musical Entertainment at Dongseo University and a member of the European-based group "Archetype," is directing the project as a collaborative program between Archetype and DSME, advancing the internationalization of the performance. A performance in Okayama, Japan, is scheduled for November, with shows in New York and Edinburgh also in preparation.

Dongseo Musical Entertainment is a campus-based virtual company operated by the Department of Musical Entertainment at Dongseo University. Established in 2025 through the Arts Council Korea's field-linked support project for aspiring artists, it helps students gain practical experience through collaborations with local businesses.

By partnering with 10 local performing arts organizations and companies, including the Busan International Performing Arts Festival and the Busan International Comedy Festival, the program offers field-based courses and leads the creation of local, community-based cultural and arts jobs for aspiring artists from the region, helping to advance the local arts scene.

The vibrant activities of these young, aspiring artists, as bright and refreshing as spring, are highly anticipated.
