Support for Egg and Sperm Freezing Extended
Age and Income Restrictions Abolished
On May 13, the Hongseong County Health Center announced that it is implementing various infertility support programs to help prospective mothers and fathers prevent infertility and to reduce the financial burden of infertility treatment costs.
The infertility support programs at the county health center include financial assistance for infertility treatment for couples and support for freezing eggs or sperm for those at risk of permanent infertility. Any resident registered in Hongseong County is eligible to apply, regardless of age or income.
The financial assistance program for infertility treatment covers in vitro fertilization (fresh embryo, frozen embryo) and artificial insemination (intrauterine insemination). The program provides support for up to 25 procedures per childbirth, covering 90% of out-of-pocket expenses, up to a maximum of 1.1 million won.
The support program for freezing eggs or sperm for those at risk of permanent infertility is available to both men and women, regardless of marital status, who are expected to permanently lose fertility. This includes individuals who have undergone oophorectomy or orchiectomy, those experiencing decreased fertility due to cancer treatment, or those at risk of premature menopause. The program provides a one-time lifetime subsidy for the cost of freezing and preserving reproductive cells (sperm or eggs) and related examinations, offering up to 2 million won for women and up to 300,000 won for men.
Applications can be submitted either by visiting the county health center in person or online.
Lim Hyunyoung, head of the Health Promotion Division at the county health center, stated, "The issue of infertility, where people wish to have children but face difficulties conceiving, is worsening with each passing year," and added, "We will do our best to support and manage families struggling with infertility."
Meanwhile, last year, the Hongseong County Health Center provided approximately 180 million won in infertility treatment support to 246 individuals experiencing infertility.
