1 million won for the first cardholder

On May 13, Shinhan Card announced the launch of the "Shinhan Card SolTravelJ Check," a new card optimized for travel to Japan, in partnership with Shinhan Bank.

Half-Price at Don Quijote and Starbucks Japan... Shinhan Card Launches 'SolTravelJ Check'

While maintaining the overseas-specialized services of the existing Shinhan Card SolTravel Check, the new card adds additional benefits specifically for travel to Japan.

First, cardholders can enjoy a 50% discount at both Don Quijote, a major discount store, and Starbucks Japan.

The Don Quijote discount is capped at 20,000 won per half-year and 40,000 won per year, based on the amount discounted. The Starbucks benefit is capped at 5,000 won per half-year and 10,000 won per year. These benefits apply when domestic spending in the previous month exceeds 300,000 won.

The card also provides a 5% discount at Japan’s three major convenience store chains (FamilyMart, Lawson, and 7-Eleven), as well as discounts at major Japanese merchants and on transportation through the Master Travel Reward (MTR) service, available until December 2026.

By scanning the QR code on the back of the card, customers can receive instant discount coupons for well-known Japanese merchants such as Bic Camera and Don Quijote.

Cardholders can also enjoy the same overseas-specialized services and domestic benefits as the existing SolTravel Check Card, including preferential exchange rates for 42 global currencies, as well as exemptions from overseas payment and overseas ATM withdrawal fees.

According to Shinhan Card, since the launch in February last year, Japan ranked first in usage among the 184 countries where the SolTravel Check Card has been used. This year, 44% of users have used the card in Japan. The most frequented merchants in Japan were 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Lawson, Don Quijote, and Universal Studios Japan, in that order.

The SolTravelJ Check Card was designed and launched to reflect these findings, allowing customers to experience tangible benefits.

The card is available in three designs: one featuring a stylized Tokyo Tower, another with traditional Japanese wrapping paper patterns, and a third using the popular "Monjagui (Chiikawa)" character.

A launch event will be held from today until June 20.

The first customer to be issued the SolTravelJ Check Card and the first customer to use it overseas will each receive 1 million won. The first customers to use the card at Don Quijote and Starbucks Japan will each receive cashback equal to twice the amount spent at those merchants.

During the event period, one customer per day with the highest total daily spending will be selected, and a total of 39 customers will each receive a 10% refund of their spending for that day. Five customers who make purchases in the largest number of cities in Japan will each receive 500,000 won.

All customers who use the SolTravelJ Check Card at Japan’s three major convenience stores, Don Quijote, or Starbucks and enter the event will receive up to 500,000 MyShinhan Points.

A Shinhan Card representative stated, "By analyzing data from overseas travelers, we have designed a product that allows customers to experience real benefits," adding, "We will continue to enhance customer satisfaction through customized cards that connect travel and daily life."
