Kim: "Democracy Is Achieved Through Dialogue, Compromise, and Patience, Not Martial Law"
Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated on May 12 regarding former President Yoon Sukyeol's 12·3 Martial Law incident, "I sincerely apologize to the people who are suffering due to the imposition of martial law." This is the first time that Kim has apologized in connection with the martial law incident.
In an interview with Channel A after visiting Seomun Market in Daegu that afternoon, Kim said, "The people are having a very hard time because of the imposition of martial law. The economy and domestic politics are difficult, but there are also many challenges in exports and diplomatic relations," explaining his position.
After paying respects at the Daejeon National Cemetery earlier that day, Kim also told reporters regarding calls within the party for a public apology over martial law and impeachment, "I will discuss it."
When the anchor asked how he would persuade voters, given that the People Power Party has only done things that the public dislikes, including the martial law incident, the impeachment of former President Yoon, and subsequent confusion over candidate unification, Kim replied, "I did not even attend the (Cabinet meeting on) martial law, and even if I had, I would not have supported it," firmly adding, "I have never supported anything like martial law."
He continued, "If I become president in the future, I will always complete democracy not through martial law, but through dialogue, persuasion, and patience between the ruling and opposition parties," emphasizing, "Democracy is achieved through dialogue, compromise, and patience, not through martial law."
When asked whether he could defeat Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, and whether he had a surefire strategy, Kim answered, "Although it was not something I planned or intended, I believe the dramatic process by which I became the candidate after many twists and turns is the most powerful campaign in itself."
Kim went on to say, "I am Kim Moonsoo who does not lie, Kim Moonsoo who is clean, Kim Moonsoo who is already verified, Kim Moonsoo who is competent, Kim Moonsoo who creates many jobs, Kim Moonsoo who makes Korea a good place for business, Kim Moonsoo who offers hope for the future, Kim Moonsoo who makes young people happy. I speak through my many achievements," stressing, "I believe Kim Moonsoo, who proves himself with achievements and not lies, is the surefire card."
Regarding his core vision, Kim emphasized, "The core of Kim Moonsoo's pledges is that there will be so many jobs that young people can have the jobs they want, and that people will be able to earn a lot of money through work," adding, "The most important pledge is to create a Korea where honest, hardworking people can live a stable and prosperous life."
