Jeonnam Province announced that it is accepting applications for New Knowledge Farmers, who will lead innovation in agriculture and rural communities, until May 23, 2025. The selection covers seven fields: food crops, fruit, vegetables, special crops, floriculture, livestock, and processing.
Interested farmers should complete the application form and submit it, along with supporting documents, to the agricultural department of the city or county office that has jurisdiction over the location of their main business.
Jeonnam Province and the relevant city or county will review the applications and conduct on-site evaluations for eligible candidates, after which they will recommend candidates to the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The agency will conduct document reviews, interviews, and on-site inspections. Based on these results, the New Knowledge Farmer Operations Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will make the final selections.
Selected New Knowledge Farmers will be awarded the New Knowledge Farmer Medal, instilling a sense of pride. In addition, they will be given roles that contribute to the advancement of agriculture, such as providing hands-on training, mentoring, and transferring innovative agricultural technologies as leading farmers.
Kim Hyunmi, Director of Agricultural Policy at Jeonnam Province, stated, "New Knowledge Farmers are key players in opening a new horizon for agriculture," and added, "We plan to actively discover and recommend promising candidates from the Jeonnam region."
Since 1999, a total of 491 New Knowledge Farmers have been selected nationwide through last year, with 95 of them from Jeonnam Province, accounting for 19% of the total.
