Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province and Gokseong Nonghyup announced on the 12th that they operated the "Rural House Call Bus" medical support project on the 9th, targeting elderly residents in rural areas with limited access to medical services.
The event took place at the Gokseong-eup Culture and Sports Center, where over 400 farmers aged 60 and older from Gokseong-eup, Ogok-myeon, Samgi-myeon, and Godal-myeon received medical consultations.
Three organizations participated in the medical support on that day: Gwangju Wonkwang University Korean Medicine Hospital, the Korean Medical Volunteer Association, and Gwangju Yoon Giljung Central Eye Clinic. They provided a range of medical services, including Korean medicine consultations, oral examinations, and vision tests.
Korean medicine services included acupuncture, prescriptions for patches and herbal medicine, treatment for musculoskeletal disorders such as frozen shoulder, and prescriptions for nutritional supplements. Fifteen medical staff from Gwangju Wonkwang University Korean Medicine Hospital participated in these services.
The Korean Medical Volunteer Association conducted oral health examinations, intraoral photography, diagnosis of dental plaque and tartar, dental treatments, and oral health education. Central Eye Clinic provided eye health screenings for conditions such as glaucoma, eye exams, and distributed reading glasses, receiving a positive response from participants.
An official from the county stated, "In the reality of rural areas entering a super-aged society, this 'Rural House Call Bus' project holds great significance in addressing medical blind spots," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to improve the health and welfare of local seniors."
