On May 12, Noh Gwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, personally visited the site of the former Seungju County Office, which will be developed into an advanced base for the green bio industry, to conduct an on-site inspection.

This inspection marks a significant first step toward transforming the site into a hub for the green bio strategic product group industrial ecosystem by linking the construction of a knowledge industry center with the Jeonnam Balanced Development 300 Project.

At the site, officials from departments related to bio, architecture, and agriculture gathered to discuss various plans for demolishing the old Seungju County Office building, which has not been utilized for 20 years, as well as the Seungju Multipurpose Hall, which has been out of use since 2022 due to building safety concerns, and how to utilize the site afterward.

Mayor Noh, while touring the site with local residents, stated, "The aging buildings at the center of the site are obstacles to establishing factories and attracting businesses," adding, "We will firmly lay the groundwork for attracting anchor companies by proceeding with swift demolition."

The city plans to accelerate the creation of a bio industry cluster on the site, focusing on strategic product groups such as food, cosmetics, and pet food.

A city official explained, "This demolition is not simply about maintenance, but is an important starting point for redrawing the industrial map of Suncheon. It is a strategic measure to advance as a sustainable eco-economic city through the green bio industry. It is also a project that can revitalize areas facing extinction."

Meanwhile, the city aims to complete the demolition of the Seungju Multipurpose Hall within this year, and will comprehensively review various ways to utilize the former Seungju County Office site, including building demolition, with plans to complete the knowledge industry center and factory facilities by 2027.
