Gwangju University announced on May 12 that it held a ceremony to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the founding of Hosim Academy and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Gwangju University.

The ceremony, which took place on the first floor auditorium of Hosimgwan at Gwangju University, was attended by approximately 400 people, including Chairperson Song Suknam, President Kim Dongjin, university members, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong, and university alumni.

The ceremony began with a report on the university's history, followed by a video reflecting on the 45-year journey since its founding, an academic report, awards for distinguished contributors and long-serving employees, a commemorative address, congratulatory speeches, and a ceremony for the delivery of alumni development funds.

Chairperson Song Suknam stated, "Over the past half-century, Gwangju University has achieved growth and honor through the dedication and passion of countless individuals," and urged, "Let us carry on the founding philosophy of the late Dr. Kim In-gon, and unite our efforts toward the 100th anniversary of our university with a spirit of challenge and innovation."

President Kim Dongjin emphasized, "Gwangju University has continuously strived for the growth and success of its students over the past 45 years, evolving from a university focused on employment and entrepreneurship to one that pursues ongoing innovation with an entrepreneurial spirit," and added, "We will overcome internal and external challenges together to open a great future, ensuring that the sweat and tears of all of us are not in vain."

Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong remarked, "Gwangju University, which stands alongside the 5·18 Democratization Movement as a symbol of Gwangju, will continue to nurture talent and work with the local community in the future," and expressed hope, "I sincerely wish for the success of your Glocal University 30 initiative, which you have applied for as a joint university with Honam University."
