Lee Jae-myung: "Thank You to Gyeonggi Residents for Raising Me... There Will Be No Petty Personal Revenge"

Lee Jae-myung Holds Campaign in Dongtan
"Gyeonggi Is My Political Hometown"

Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Dongtan in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province for a campaign event and stated, "It is the people of Gyeonggi who raised Lee Jae-myung like this," expressing his sincere gratitude. Lee pledged to approach the presidential election with fairness and declared that even if he is elected president, there will be no personal acts of revenge.

On the afternoon of May 12 at Dongtan Central Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, Lee emphasized, "Gyeonggi is my political hometown that made Lee Jae-myung who I am today," adding, "I want to once again sincerely thank the people of Gyeonggi, who raised me, Lee Jae-myung, despite my lack of wealth, organization, blood ties, or regional connections." Supporters responded to his remarks by repeatedly chanting "Lee Jae-myung" and cheering.

Lee criticized the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, saying, "All power must be exercised solely for the better lives of the people and the better future of the Republic of Korea. Over the past three years, we have painfully realized what happens to a country when power and the budget, funded by the people's hard work, are misused not for the people but for the privileges of specific individuals."

He continued, "Now, we must build with our own hands a true democratic republic where the people are the true owners of the nation, where the people are happy, and where all the nation's power and capabilities are used properly only for the people and the country."

Lee stated, "Politics is not someone else's business, but my own life and fate. While working two or three jobs is important, making the right choices is the way to live much better and is more important than simply giving more money to our children." He added, "While it is important to teach our children how to pass through narrow gateways of opportunity, politics is about widening those gateways, and that is the faster and more accurate way to support our children."

Lee promised to do his best to ensure a fair presidential election. He emphasized, "I will never stoop to petty and disgraceful political fights or dig up dirt under the guise of political strife. We are not the kind of petty people who abuse the power entrusted to us for personal revenge or to resolve private grudges, instead of using it for national development and the betterment of the people's lives."

He also said, "With all my might, I will prove how much the world can change for the better through my own efforts." He continued, "Even though it was the same Joseon, King Seonjo drove millions of people to their deaths and stained the land with blood, while King Jeongjo revived Joseon as the strongest nation in East Asia. This is the change between heaven and hell created by the actions of people."

He concluded, "Although Korea is facing a crisis, there is always an opportunity in every crisis, and just as one door closes another opens, our future can be either bleak or bright depending on what we do. Korea is at a historic crossroads, and that is why, right now, it must be Lee Jae-myung."

Meanwhile, starting with a campaign event at Gwanghwamun in Seoul in the morning, Lee held a brown bag meeting with innovation industry workers in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, under the theme of 'K-Innovation.' He visited Dongtan to discuss 'K-Semiconductors,' and later traveled to Daejeon to campaign with a focus on 'K-Science and Technology.'
