Prosecutors Notify:
"Appear for Questioning on the 14th"
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's special investigation team on Myung Taegyun allegations (headed by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jihyung) has sent a summons to Mrs. Kim, requesting her to appear as a suspect for questioning on May 14 on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Political Funds Act.
The investigation team had communicated the need for a face-to-face interview with Mrs. Kim's side more than three times since the beginning of this year. However, as Mrs. Kim's side did not respond to these discussions, the team proceeded with the official summons procedure.
Prosecutors suspect that during the March 9, 2022 presidential election, Mrs. Kim received the results of opinion polls dozens of times free of charge from political broker Myung Taegyun, and in return, assisted former lawmaker Kim Youngsun in securing a party nomination for the June 2022 by-election.
Additionally, Mrs. Kim is suspected of being involved in the nomination of the People Power Party's Pohang mayoral candidate and Seoul Gangseo district mayoral candidate during the local elections that same year, as well as in the nomination of former prosecutor Kim Sangmin during last year's general election. Since the investigation base was transferred from the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in February, the investigation team has continued to communicate the necessity of a face-to-face interview with Mrs. Kim's side. However, no concrete scheduling arrangements have been made.
If Mrs. Kim complies with the summons, this will mark her first appearance at the prosecutors' office for questioning regarding these allegations.
