According to AU News in Australia on May 11 (local time), Maddie Miller, a 20-year-old Australian woman, was shocked after looking at her boyfriend's email account. She found payment records for a subscription to an adult content platform in his inbox. Miller was particularly shocked because the woman featured in the content her boyfriend subscribed to was someone she personally knew.
Miller expressed her anger, saying, "This is a serious violation of trust between partners," and added, "It's no different from me asking his friends for nude photos?it's a betrayal." According to Miller, her boyfriend tried to explain by saying, "I accidentally clicked a link a friend sent me." However, after checking the email records, it was revealed that he had paid subscription fees to several women's accounts.
Miller's story has ignited a heated online debate, raising the issue of "digital infidelity." On the social media platform Reddit, thousands of comments were posted on related discussion threads. One user wrote, "Such behavior should be called 'digital infidelity.'"
Other comments included, "I can understand watching adult content, but consistently paying to watch a specific woman is definitely cheating," "My ex-husband was obsessed with women like that. He ended up paying more and more money. We eventually divorced," and "If you're secretly paying money to interact with women without your girlfriend knowing, what else could it be but cheating?" However, there were also many comments defending the boyfriend's actions, such as, "They didn't actually meet in person, so how is this cheating?" and "Is it really such a big problem for adults to watch adult content?"
