Reexamining the Boundaries Between AI and Art
Central University announced on May 12 that it will hold the 2025 TechArt International Conference, titled "AI ART and (Dis)Continuity," online from May 28 to May 31.
The conference will bring together theorists, artists, and technologists from various countries to critically examine the aesthetics and technology of AI art, the structure of related industries, and issues of memory and representation.
The opening session will feature Lev Manovich, Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York and a digital culture theorist, who will present an experimental attempt that traverses the humanities and the arts using AI-powered presentations.
Hsien-hao Liao, Distinguished Professor at National Taiwan University, and Mihaela Mihailova, Professor at the State University of New York, will each give talks on "Rethinking Creativity Across Human-Machine Cultures" and "Changes in the Animation Industry Driven by the Adoption of AI."
The second session will feature Rachel Falconer from Goldsmiths, University of London, who will discuss "How Generative AI Technologies Are Transforming Storytelling."
Media artists Nouf Aljowaysir and Milos Trakilovic will address how artists are embracing and reconstructing the transformed identity of memory.
The third session will focus on experimental content convergence based on metaverse environments.
Ziyu Wan from Microsoft GenAI and Nick Fox-Gieg from New York University will explore how generative AI can expand sensory narratives and creative interfaces, focusing on immersive visual content and automated storytelling technologies.
In addition, emerging Korean researchers will share diverse aspects of AI experimentation observed in Korea's creative scene.
Park Jinwan, head of the AI-Content Future Industries Education and Research Group, stated, "This conference will provide an opportunity to examine how AI is newly shaping aesthetic thought and artistic practice," adding, "We hope it will serve as an academic platform for sharply reflecting on the continuity and transformative potential of AI art."
Meanwhile, more information about the conference is available on the official website (techartjournal.org).
