The author, identified as A, wrote, "On the 8th, our youngest child took the dog out for a walk and, on the way back, failed to clean up the dog's feces in front of the first-floor elevator." A explained that they learned about the incident through the apartment management office. A stated, "I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort to the many residents who use the elevator," and added, "The greatest fault lies with us as parents for failing to teach our child the basic manners required in apartment communal living."
A continued, "We have once again instructed our children to always carry waste bags during walks and to clean up immediately. Since there are neighbors who dislike or are afraid of dogs, we have also taught them to always hold the dog in their arms when using the elevator, and we had our child write the apology letter personally." A further stated, "If our dog barks at or acts threateningly toward anyone, you may even kick the dog. This is a place where people live, and people must come first. We will make sure that such an incident never happens again." The apology letter written by the child involved was also shared. The child wrote, "I did not clean up after my dog in front of the elevator," and added, "I am truly sorry. I am ashamed of my actions." The child continued, "My parents scolded me a lot and I sincerely reflected on my behavior," and promised, "From now on, I will clean up immediately if my dog defecates."
After reading the post, internet users commented, "Anyone can make a mistake. They handled it properly," "It's surprising to see such an apology letter, since normal behavior has become rare these days," and "It's a perfect apology letter, including both the cause of the incident and the corrective measures." Meanwhile, failing to clean up after a pet in public places can result in a fine. According to Article 16 of the Animal Protection Act, a fine of up to 500,000 won may be imposed for failing to clean up pet waste.
