Goryeong County (Governor Lee Namcheol) Youth Culture House announced that on May 11, it operated an on-site educational program for 30 adolescents, combining disaster response experiences with cultural activities.
This experiential program was conducted as a tour of three locations: the Gyeongsangnam-do Disaster Safety Experience Center, the Hapcheon Image Theme Park, and Gaesil Village in Goryeong.
Goryeong County planned this program in response to the recent large-scale wildfires and safety accidents that occurred in the Gyeongbuk region, focusing on the need for practical experiential education to strengthen adolescents’ disaster response abilities and crisis management skills.
In particular, at the Disaster Safety Experience Center, the program provided training for adolescents to develop calm crisis response skills through hands-on experiences simulating various situations such as fire response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and earthquake evacuation. The participating adolescents realized the importance of "learning safety through physical experience" rather than just theoretical education.
At the next stop, Hapcheon Image Theme Park, the students toured sets recreating past Korean society and indirectly experienced film and drama shooting sites, which helped foster their cultural literacy. In addition, at Gaesil Village in Goryeong, a healing program was held where participants naturally learned the value of community and traditional culture by making the traditional dish Kalguksu together.
Park Hyunsu, head of operations at the Goryeong County Youth Culture House, said, "I hope this experience has helped adolescents develop both their disaster response capabilities and their cultural sensitivity," adding, "We plan to continue providing a variety of experiential safety education and cultural programs."
