Individuals in their 50s and 60s who sold or used drugs in Jinju and other areas of Gyeongnam Province have been arrested by the police.
The Jinju Police Station announced on May 12 that it had detained five people, including a man in his 50s, identified as A, who was involved in drug sales.
According to the police, between January and February of this year, A is suspected of selling 1.5 grams of methamphetamine to C, another individual in his 50s, on four separate occasions through B, also in his 50s, who acted as a broker.
C is accused of selling 1.5 grams of methamphetamine to D, a man in his 50s, while E, a man in his 60s, sold 0.7 grams to D. In addition, all three are each suspected of using methamphetamine at their residences and other locations.
Previously, on February 18, the police arrested C on charges of drug sales and use. Two days later, on February 20, D was apprehended near his residence in Ulsan, and 3.36 grams of methamphetamine were seized.
Following an investigation to identify the suppliers, three more people were arrested by April 14, resulting in all five individuals being detained.
It has been reported that those arrested do not have any particular occupations.
A police official stated, "The identities of those who report drug-related crimes will be strictly protected, and rewards for reporting will be provided," adding, "We ask for active interest and reports from citizens."
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police are conducting an intensive crackdown on drug-related crimes for 106 days, from March 17 to June 30 of this year.
During this period, the police are focusing their investigative efforts on online drug distribution, which is a key route for trafficking; medical narcotics distributed through hospitals and clinics; drugs in vulnerable areas such as entertainment districts and neighborhoods with high concentrations of foreigners; and the illegal cultivation of poppies and cannabis.
