Demolition of the Daejeoncheon Underpass Road and Expansion of the Riverside Road
Junggu District in Daejeon announced that it has identified 12 major presidential election pledges across three key areas for the development of the Junggu region, and has delivered them to the presidential candidate camps of major parties, including the Daejeon branches of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party.
The pledges include repurposing the abandoned Daejeon Line, demolishing the Daejeoncheon underpass road and expanding the riverside road, relocating national and public institutions in connection with the Urban Convergence Special Zone and Daejeon Innovation City, designating the original downtown area as a cultural and tourism special zone, increasing KTX train operations and constructing a multi-modal transfer center to revitalize Seodaejeon Station, and promoting integrated urban development and reducing railway noise by undergrounding the Honam Line.
Kim Jesun, head of Junggu District, stated, "We will strive to ensure these pledges are reflected in the 21st presidential election, as they address the various regional issues and challenges of local autonomy faced by Junggu, and are essential for balanced development in Daejeon and the revitalization of the original downtown and local communities."
