Korea University and UNIST Sign Agreement on Future Strategic Technologies

Strengthening Collaboration in Convergence Research and Talent Development

Korea University announced on May 12 that it has signed an agreement with Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) for joint research and talent exchange in the field of strategic technologies.

The signing ceremony took place at 3:30 p.m. on May 9 at the Market Hall of the UNIST Industry-Academia Cooperation Building, with approximately 30 key officials in attendance, including the presidents of both universities.


The event proceeded in the following order: welcoming remarks, a progress report on the initiative, presentations on each university’s core research areas and directions for collaboration, the signing of the agreement, and a commemorative photo session.


After the ceremony, participants toured major research facilities at UNIST, including the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, Environmental Analysis Laboratory, and NanoFAB, sharing each university’s research infrastructure and discussing future avenues for cooperation.


The two universities will collaborate in various areas, including the establishment and operation of a Convergence Cooperation Committee, joint research and sharing of research infrastructure, faculty and student exchanges, hosting of joint conferences, and promotion of international cooperation.


In particular, they plan to invigorate joint research in strategic technology sectors, focusing on their core areas such as AI, energy, bio, and environment.


Dongwon Kim, President of Korea University, stated, "This agreement with UNIST marks the beginning of a strong partnership that will open the future of humanity together, beyond just South Korea," adding, "I look forward to creating a new model of higher education together, based on the trust and solidarity between our two institutions."


Jongrae Park, President of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, said, "This agreement lays the foundation for both institutions to pool our research capabilities and jointly respond to future strategic technologies," and added, "We plan to provide active support to ensure that our practical cooperation leads to tangible results."
