Daejeon City Implements Concentrated City Bus Dispatch System as Tram Construction Expands

The Daejeon city government announced that, as the construction section of the Urban Railway Line 2 tram expands, it will implement a concentrated city bus dispatch system during commuting hours starting from May 13 to minimize inconvenience for citizens.

This system will apply to 13 routes passing through Sections 1 and 2 (from Eumnae Samgeori to Jungni Sageori in Daedeok-gu), specifically for buses departing from their starting points between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Depending on the progress of the construction, the city plans to gradually expand the concentrated dispatch system to 61 routes passing through Sections 3 to 14.

In addition, enforcement of the bus-only lanes in both directions on the Section 1 construction segment?between Eumnae Samgeori in Daedeok-gu and the intersection in front of the Dongbu Lifelong Education and Culture Center, where the number of lanes has been reduced due to construction?will be suspended. The suspension period will begin on May 8 and will continue until three lanes in each direction are secured.

Previously, ahead of the full-scale start of tram construction, the city proactively responded to minimize inconvenience for citizens by analyzing major congestion areas, designating detour roads, and establishing phased traffic measures.

Key policies include: ▲ the ongoing 24-hour suspension of enforcement on the bus-only lanes of the Cheonbyeon Urban Expressway, ▲ concentrated city bus dispatch, ▲ improvement of the passenger car day-of-week system, ▲ reduction of the traffic generation charge, ▲ expansion of the Tashu bike-sharing system and rental stations, introduction of trackless articulated vehicles, and ▲ free public transportation for children.

In particular, the city is providing real-time updates on construction and traffic information through the traffic forecasting system.

Nam Sideok, Director of Transportation at Daejeon City, stated, "We will continue to monitor travel speeds and traffic volumes in the expanding tram construction sections at all times to ensure that traffic congestion is minimized."
