Unified Parasol and Platform Rental Prices at 12 Beaches
Six Jeju Beaches to Open Early on June 24
Jeju Province, which faced controversy over excessive pricing last year, has set this summer's beach convenience item rental fees at 20,000 won for a parasol and 30,000 won for a platform.
According to Jeju Province on May 11, the province held the "2025 First Half Jeju Beach Council Meeting" on May 9 and decided on this year's beach opening periods, operating hours, and convenience item prices. As a result, the price for renting a parasol at the 12 beaches in Jeju will be unified at 20,000 won, and the price for a platform will be 30,000 won. The 12 beaches covered by this policy are Ihoteu, Gwakji, Hyeopjae, Geumneung, Hwasun Geummorae, Jungmun Saekdal, Samyang, Hamdeok, Gimnyeong, Woljeong, Sinyang Seopji, and Pyoseon.
In addition, six out of the twelve beaches will open early on June 24. The beaches opening early are Ihoteu, Hyeopjae, Woljeong, Geumneung, Gwakji, and Hamdeok, and they will operate until August 31. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The remaining six beaches?Gimnyeong, Hwasun Geummorae, Jungmun Saekdal, Pyoseon, Sinyang Seopji, and Samyang?will open on July 1. Some beaches, including Hyeopjae, Woljeong, and Samyang, will extend their operating hours by about one hour until 8 p.m. for one month starting July 15. Additionally, Ihoteu Beach, which is equipped with night lighting, will remain open until 9 p.m.
Last summer, posts expressing dissatisfaction with Jeju tourism appeared frequently on online communities. In particular, one post claimed, "A family of four visited a famous Jeju beach and was treated unfairly." The writer stated that after renting a platform for 60,000 won, they tried to eat delivered chicken but were not allowed to do so due to a "no outside food" policy. In response, Jeju Province held a meeting at midnight with representatives from village associations managing the beaches and lowered the parasol rental price at some beaches. This year, the province has gone a step further by unifying the rental prices for parasols and platforms.
Kim Aesuk, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of Jeju Province, said, "Last year, each village operating beaches voluntarily participated in lowering the prices of beach convenience items, enhancing Jeju's tourism image. I ask for the active cooperation of each village again this year so that efforts for voluntary coexistence can continue." Jeju Province has also strengthened its cooperation system with related agencies for smooth beach operation and management, and has been conducting regular safety inspections, facility maintenance, and environmental clean-up work even before the beaches open.
