Yangcheon District in Seoul announced on May 11 that it has been selected as the top-performing institution in the “2024/25 Seoul Metropolitan Government Comprehensive Snow Removal Evaluation.”
This evaluation was conducted from July of last year to March of this year, targeting 31 district offices and road management offices across Seoul. It comprehensively assessed 30 indicators in five categories: planning, snow removal response capability, post-management of equipment, citizen participation, and exemplary cases.

Yangcheon District received high marks for actively introducing smart snow removal systems, such as road heating cables and fixed brine spreaders, reflecting the area's high population density and numerous sloped roads. From 2023 to last year, the district enhanced its initial response capability by installing 18 road heating cable locations (totaling 2,432 meters) in snow-prone and frequently icy areas, covering 411 kilometers of road sections to prepare for snowfall and heavy snow.
Additionally, the district worked to improve safety response by installing eight more fixed automatic brine spreaders, expanding private snow removal service contracts, increasing the number of spreaders by 36, and operating social networking services (SNS).
From November of last year to March of this year, the district maintained a 24-hour situation management system centered on the Snow Removal Countermeasures Headquarters, deploying 2,609 tons of snow removal materials, 594 pieces of equipment, and 7,006 personnel to respond swiftly to snowfall and heavy snow events.
Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, “We will continue to do our utmost to make Yangcheon District safe from disasters by implementing prompt and proactive snow removal measures.”
