Gyeonggi Province to Conduct Emergency Pre-Rainy Season Inspections at 30 Mountain Development Sites

Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint inspection from May 12 to May 27, together with the province, cities and counties, and the Safety Management Advisory Group, to ensure the safety of mountain development sites vulnerable to summer torrential rains and other hydrometeorological disasters.

This emergency inspection is a pre-sample inspection of mountain development sites before the rainy season, aimed at preventing casualties and property damage.

The inspection targets are sites with a development area of 5,000 square meters or more among mountain development permit areas in 12 cities and counties, including Yongin, Hwaseong, Ansan, Gimpo, Gwangju, Osan, Icheon, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Yangju, Dongducheon, and Gapyeong. Gyeonggi Province will inspect a total of 30 sites, including 20 under construction, 6 where construction is suspended, and 4 where construction is completed.

The main inspection items include: whether the disaster impact assessment consultation details are reflected in the design documents and specifications; the appropriateness of the installation of drainage facilities and facilities to reduce rainwater and soil runoff; the structural safety of cut and fill slopes and retaining walls; and whether flood control materials are stocked at the sites.

During the inspection process, Gyeonggi Province will immediately address minor issues on-site, such as cleaning drainage channels and providing temporary protection for cut and fill slopes. In addition, for issues such as improper installation of drainage facilities or discrepancies with the design documents and specifications, the province will notify the relevant city or county to ensure corrective actions are completed before the full-scale monsoon season begins. Furthermore, the findings from the inspections will be shared with all 31 cities and counties so that they can use them as a reference during their own inspections.

Lee Jongdon, Director of Safety Management at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through this safety inspection, we will do our utmost to enhance the safety of mountain development sites and minimize damage caused by hydrometeorological disasters."
