On May 11, Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, made a statement on the anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, saying, "We will carry on the dream of a Daedong world, where we are all equal owners, together."

On his Facebook page that day, Lee said, "Today marks the anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, the day the seeds of the Daedong world were sown," and added, "It was the day when people broke free from the shackles of social status and called for equality for all, marking the first step of our democracy."
Lee also stated, "The torches of the peasants that illuminated the darkness of feudalism continue to light the path toward a nation where the people are the true owners," and added, "It still feels as if I can hear the cries of the peasants who declared that there is no one above their heads and no one beneath their feet."
